I should be an adult and not buy something I’ll chuck money at. I should be a grown ass adult and not get something I view more as a toy rather than a reliable and sensible daily driver. The smart thing to do is buy something sensible like an Accord, which will never break and I can’t modify it to no end.
.
.
BUT NOOOOOO...I had to stupidly go on cargurus and see that ‘17 and even new ‘18 BRZ’s with the performance package are really affordable. There’s a brand new one in CT for $27,xxx...slightly used ones I’ve seen are in the low to mid 20k range. Do I need that? No. Do I want it? Maybe. Would it be more fun than an Accord? Yes.

It’s slow doe. I have a 2018 86 GT Black until Monday. Great looking car, but the “power” (if it can even be called that) comes in at 5000 RPM and red lines is 7300. It’s almost got me in trouble a couple times because nothing I have driven has so little torque. With a turbo though, sign me up.

I think a white performance pack BRZ is in my not too distant future. That or I somehow convince my dad to sell his Series.Yellow to me.

And for those saying 200 is plenty, yes 200 should be plenty. 164 in the Abarth was amaazing but somehow Subaru found a way to get almost no horsepower out of what should be enough.

Torque and powerband are what matter. Horsepower is great and all, but I’d rather have a lower HP engine with more torque in the mid-range of the powerband. At least for driving on the street.

So... high torque mid range. You want a city bus I see....

Yeah that’s pretty much what I meant. Ma ny people in speak in horsies and not the torque though. The 25 lb-ft extra in the Fiat really makes the difference.

The torque is what I like about my 328. It only has 230hp, but it’s got torque from 2000-5000rpm and that’s a nice feeling. And one I wasn’t used to at all.

I see someone has been spoiled by the IS-F.

It’s pretty strange that they (both companies) are so dead set against making a turbo version.

In all fairness I don’t need some 300+ hp car, all I do is commute to work, get food, and other misc. tasks.

Why not? They’re only slightly bigger than a Suburban, but far more practical!

If that’s your use case you can pick up a gently used non performance pack car for about 5k less. If you really want a deal you can even get a used pre-facelift car for under $15k.

I’m a snob, i want the performance pack

I love winding having to wind out high rpm low torque cars. Torque is really fun but it might da feels like cheating. Makes it too easy. That’s part of what I like about riding my dads Yamaha DT250 enduro. It’s super slow and you have to be ok it’s all the time.

Those B rembos are sexy, even if they do limit wheel options.

I think we overestimate the effects of torque at times... the issue with the BRZ might be the gearing....

I’ve been commuting in it and have commuted ina ton of cars and I think 250 is about perfect. Keeps up with traffic but still fun. Like I said though, the Abarth with 175 was fantastic though. It’s all about the gearing/torques.

I just am never able to relly get it up to 5k during the day. and if I do, I look like an arse.

The Fiat was the real killer. Such a fabulous car.

I’m fortunate enough to drive a country road everyday so I forget that people don’t necessarily have lots of opportunity to go crazy on the commute. Something hatvreally bugaboo me abou the Toyobaru Twins though is the atrocious gas mileage. I don’t understand how it’s physically possible to get gas mileage that bad from a four cylinder pushing only 200 horse.

It looks like it is underrated a good bit. The average on the freeway when I got it was mid 30s. It does get poor milage around town though because you’re always at 5000+ to go fast.

That’s not bad. Still think light and aerodynamic as it is they’d be pushing 35mpg.

Meant to ask you, how is the electric steering on those? How much feel does it give you? Also does with it being electric how hard is it to turn when the car is turned off?

On the 86?

Yeah, I was under the impression they had electric assist power steering instead of hydraulic?

Yeah, it feels quite good to me. Much lighter than the ISF but I ain’t even mad.
